The Bengal cat is a domestic breed developed to resemble exotic jungle cats such as leopards, featuring a distinctive spotted or marbled coat pattern.

History

Bengals were developed in the mid-20th century by crossing domestic cats with the Asian leopard cat, then selectively breeding for temperament suitable for domestic life while retaining a wild appearance.

Physical characteristics

Bengals have a muscular, athletic build and a short coat with a distinctive spotted or marbled pattern. Some Bengals have a coat with a "glitter" effect, giving fur an iridescent sheen.

Temperament

Highly energetic and intelligent, Bengals require significant mental and physical stimulation. They are known to be curious, playful, and sometimes mischievous.
