The Persian cat is a long-haired breed characterized by its round face, short muzzle, and calm, gentle temperament. It is one of the oldest known cat breeds, with a documented history stretching back centuries.

History

Persians are believed to have originated in the region historically known as Persia (modern-day Iran), and were among the first long-haired cat breeds introduced to Europe, where they became popular among nobility.

Physical characteristics

Persians have a distinctive flat, round face, large expressive eyes, and a thick, luxurious coat that requires regular grooming to prevent matting.

Temperament

Known for their calm, laid-back nature, Persians are well suited to quiet indoor environments and tend to form close bonds with their owners.

Care

Due to their long coat, Persians require daily brushing. Their flat facial structure can also predispose them to certain breathing and eye issues, so regular veterinary checkups are recommended.
